ACTION PAINTING GRADE 3-4

ESSENTIAL QUESTION | What does the student need to know about Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting to be able to discuss the artwork of several Action Painters from the New York School and the Cobra Group?

INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES | Students learn about and be able to discuss Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting. The students will view images from various artists in the Action Painting movement, both from America and Europe. The students will have a chance to try out the techniques of Jackson Pollock and Karel Appel.

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES |
The student will be able to discuss if and/or how an artwork is abstract.
The student will be able to discuss the how and why World War II spurred Abstract Expressionism.
The student will be able to analyze a work of Action Painting through its colors, forms and technique.
The student will be able to talk about at least two artists' techniques (Pollock and Appel).
The student will be able to work together in a team effectively.
The student will be able to clean up their workspace appropriately.
