SGRAFFITO VASES GRADE 9-12 ESSENTIAL QUESTION | What does the student need to know about Greek sgraffito vases and its relationship to Greek culture and history to create their own unique sgraffito vase on the wheel that is representative of their own culture and history? INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES | Students will study Greek sgraffito designs and techniques. Students will learn a little about Greek culture and history through studying a select few sgraffito designs. Students will do a small amount of in-class research on the function and purpose of the different types of Greek vases which will be shared in a brief presentation. Students will design their own sgraffito vase's shape and design and will think about how their design will represent their own culture and history much like the Greek examples discussed in class. Students will throw several vases on the wheel before applying sgraffito techniques with colored slip.
